Advanced Open Water Diver: going deeper, properly

Who it is for

Divers who hold an entry-level certification and want to dive deeper, navigate confidently and try specialised diving — wreck, night, drift, photography — under an instructor's eye. Many divers take it soon after Open Water, which is exactly what it is designed for.

Requirements

• An entry-level certification (PADI Open Water Diver, CMAS One Star or equivalent).
• Minimum age per the agency's standards — 12 for a junior certification with PADI, adult from 15.
• Medical fitness to dive.

Duration

Typically two to three days: five dives, each with a short theory component. Planned individually; no fixed schedule or price is published here.

Theory

A knowledge review for each adventure dive: deep-diving physiology and planning, compass and natural navigation, and the specifics of the elective dives chosen.

Open-water adventure dives

Five dives. Two are compulsory — a deep dive and an underwater navigation dive — and three are electives chosen with the instructor from the available specialties.

Certification and international recognition

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and CMAS Two Star are recognised worldwide as the second level of recreational certification, with a recommended depth limit of about 30 metres.

What it means on the Alanya coast

Around 30 m is the standard certified profile here, and the overhangs, ledges and swim-throughs beneath the castle come into their own at that depth. The deep sites to 60 m remain reserved for suitably qualified divers by agreement with the team — an advanced card is the beginning of that qualification, not the whole of it.
